Care for some chicken or pasta? I made it myself! I had not committed to a meal delivery service before a friend recommended Hello Fresh to me. I took him up on it. Hello Fresh is an easy to cook series of boxed dinners. You get fresh ingredients all categorized and put into boxes designated for a specific dish. This includes fresh meats in vacuum packs. Finally you get a recipe card with directions for cooking each dish. You get 7 days to cook all three meals before it goes bad. So! I'll share with you the entire process of Hello Fresh.

It starts with the delivery. The food comes in an ice packed box. Open the box, then refrigerate all the pieces. Even if you don't open it right away, the food can stay fresh up to 24 hours after delivery.
Here are the ingredient boxes inside the box, each one is designated for one of the three meals Hello Fresh designed for the week.
In this example, I'll cook the Fussiloni al Forno: it's a baked fussiloni dish with ricotta cheese, sauteed spinach, ground beef, crushed tomatoes and mozzarella on the top. First I cooked the pasta.
While that was cooking, I started to wash the spniach. I know it was pre-washed but I washed it again as a precaution.
While I washed the spniach, I cooked the ground beef, seasoning, and an onion/olive oil/garlic mixture. I chopped each one beforehand per the instructions. Later I added the spinach and ricotta cheese to this combined mixture to create the "filling". It all got mixed in this medium bowl.
Once that's set you take the same pan you used for the ground beef, then you put in the crushed tomatoes from the packet and simmer it for a few minutes.
As that completes, I combined all the ingredients together in a baking dish. Pasta first, then sauce.
Lastly, add the filling and top with the mozzarella and bake for several minutes. Here's the finished pasta bake:
Ohhhhhh so good my friends! What's really wild is that the recipe says this dish above accounts for two servings. If that's true, these are enormous servings, and not surprisingly, half the dish is over 950 calories. It can be stretched to four or even six meals easily. I took 1/4, no, it might have been 1/6 of the pasta and it filled my plate. This was a great recipe.
The recipe cards are very nice and intended to keep with other recipes. We will be able to re-create the dish with our own ingredients in the future.
Hello Fresh is pretty awesome. My biggest problem trying to cook myself is assembling the appropriate amount of ingredients. These packages take the guess work out of it. Thanks to my buddy for the recommendation. The next blog won't be such a blatant infomercial, but meal delivery services are great -- less time at the grocery store and finished meals that are fairly close to those of fancy restaurants. On the second day I cooked the Mozza Encrusted chicken and I was blown away by the freshness of the chicken. It was so juicy and the chicken crust was on point.
I can't deicde yet whether to order every week or bi weekly or monthly yet. It's monthly right now, but if I feel like I can swing the costs I can go more frequently. I feel healthier eating these meals thus far. A good time to be had, check out hellofresh.com if you want to give it a go yourself.
